Implementation of an Evidence-based Intensive Intervention in School-based Physical Therapy

When: Tuesday, February 22, 2022 | 6:45pm - 8:15pm MT

Where: Virtual via Zoom

Join the APTA Colorado Pediatric SIG for this virtual event!

Evidence to support intensive intervention continues to grow in pediatric physical therapy, but is not often used in school-based physical therapy. This session will highlight how a team of school-based physical therapists (SBPTs) implemented an intensive intervention for an 8-week program in the school setting. The SBPTs had to modify the typical service delivery model and overcome challenges to implement this intensive intervention with students receiving physical therapy services as part of their Individualized Education Program (IEP). They collaborated with physical therapists from the local children’s hospital to implement a progressive resistance exercise (PRE) program being used in the outpatient clinical setting. The SBPTs will describe how they started with a school district professional development day, developed a PRE program for the school setting, implemented the intervention, and reviewed outcomes to determine student progress and further development of the program.
