Parent Child Relationships: The Key to Facilitating a Joyful and Sensitive Environment to Foster Development

This course is sponsored by the APTA Colorado Pediatric SIG. The course will cover theoretical and clinical evidence on the importance of attending to the parent-child relationship during pediatric physical therapy practice. We will explore the intertwined relationships between motor and social emotional development, provide evidence for the role of the parent-child relationship from birth to three on children’s development, and highlight the implications of childhood disability on the parent-child relationship. We will then provide suggestions and practical applications of parent-child relationship focused intervention to enhance pediatric physical therapy practice, children’s global development, and family well-being.
