Participate in National Physical Therapy Month

October is National Physical Therapy Month, a celebration for the profession and an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of physical therapy and physical therapists’ role as movement experts. This year, APTA is highlighting the many essential health benefits of regular physical activity and the transformative role PTs and PTAs play in helping Americans get or keep moving. The focus on physical activity amplifies our latest ChoosePT public awareness campaign, launched in July, to address the prevalence of inactivity among Americans. APTA encourages Americans to choose more movement to prevent or improve many chronic conditions and reduce the risk of some cancers, and improve bone health, cognitive function, weight control, and quality of life.

Amid a pandemic, this year’s NPTM celebrations may not be the same as in past years. In-person celebrations may be canceled or more socially distant. However, there are still important ways your members can get involved and promote the profession. View eight easy things to do to participate in National Physical Therapy Month.

Please also encourage your members to update or create a profile on APTA's Find a PT directory. This member benefit is accessible through APTA’s consumer website, ChoosePT.com, which reached more than 4 million Americans last year. Find a PT makes it easy for consumers to filter search results by practice focus or specialization. Contact APTA's Public and Media Relations with questions.
