Meet Your Leadership
Posted: March 21, 2019
Over the next few months, the nominating committee is sharing stories by your current APTA Colorado leadership as we approach the fall elections. Today’s spotlight is on Vice President Jill Flaherty.
Jill Flaherty - Current Vice President of the Colorado Chapter
Why did you become involved in the Colorado Chapter?
I have been a member of the National APTA and Colorado Chapter since I was a student. Over my career I have held a variety of positions on the Colorado APTA Board. I have chosen to be involved because: 1) it is an important part of being a professional; 2) I felt I had ideas that could benefit the Chapter and 3) the Western Slope needs a voice in the conversations, and I could bring that voice.
Why were you interested in your current position?
The Vice President position became vacant when our current VP received a scholarship residency and resigned the position. It became an appointed position by the President for the remainder of the vacated term. At the time I was completing my term as Chief Delegate for the Colorado membership. I placed my name in for consideration to bring continuity to the office and to assist in reviewing the Bylaws for 2019.
What are some of your obligations and tasks in your current leadership position?
The Vice President is a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of the Colorado Chapter of the APTA. Per the Bylaws of the Colorado Chapter the Vice President serves as the Bylaws Chair and in other capacities assigned by the President. If the President is absent or if the office of President should become vacant and there is no President-Elect to fill in, the next officer to preside would be the Vice President. The Vice President is the liaison to the Professional Development Director, who represents the Ethics Committee, the Research Committee, and the Professional Development Committee.
