Open Gym at Aurora West College Preparatory Academy

The Mile High District is proud to announce an upcoming event with Aurora West Collegiate Preparatory Academy. AWCPA is a grades 6-12 title 1 school in Aurora. University of Colorado Anschutz Physical Therapy Program Community Outreach team has been providing informal mentorship to the middle and high school students of AWCPA by joining them on Wednesdays for open gym. This is a time where we can play sports with the students and build relationships with them so that they feel comfortable asking questions about physical therapy. The goal of the Community Outreach team is to promote the profession of physical therapy, especially to students in historically marginalized and underserved communities.

On Wednesday 12/14 at 1:00pm, a team of volunteers will attend the open gym to interact with students and play games. This is a way to give back to the community and show our appreciation for this partnership. We have set up an Amazon wish list for donated sports equipment. We plan to present the donations to the students on the 14th as this is the last open gym of the year. Both the principal and athletic director are looking forward to continuing this collaboration throughout the years. We hope this will be an annual event for the District.
