Physical Therapy Assessment and Intervention Best Practices for Pediatric Telehealth

This course, hosted by the APTA Colorado Pediatric SIG, will present specific tests and measures appropriate for the telehealth service delivery method as well as explore telehealth specific teaching tools for meeting the standard of equivalent to an in-person session.

Speaker: Christine Robenalt, P.T. MPT, was an early adopter of telehealth beginning in 2010. She was able to capitalize on experiences at the V.A. and with contracting agencies that led to expanding telehealth services to students attending virtual schools and then bring live video visits to pediatric home care. In 2015, Christine sat on the Telehealth Work Group for Early Intervention Colorado and co-authored the provider training that is still utilized today. Christine acknowledges that live video visits are not the same as in-person sessions, but can still be equivalent. In fact, she has experienced first-hand how sometimes a live video visit can actually be perceived by parent and therapist as being better than an in-person session. Christine Robenalt is a wife, mom, and pediatric physical therapist. She also would describe herself as a modern medicine woman who tries to stay connected to her body and works 1:1 and in groups with parents and their children to do the same. Maintaining this connection between our thinking brain and our body’s sensation will keep up in check and aware to the early signals of stress and danger.
