SE District Event - Sept. 18: What Happens Visually After A Concussion

When: Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Where: Great Moves 1775 S 8th St, Colorado Springs, CO 80905

Course Description: Vision is one of our predominate senses, so what happens to that system during a concussion? During this presentation you will learn about the current definition and pathophysiology of concussions, the most common visual signs and symptoms seen after a concussion and their timelines for resolution, and how neuro-visual rehabilitation can help overcome those symptoms. We will discuss Afferent Visual Pathway (Ocular Health, Color Vision, Visual Fields, Pupils, Refractive Error), Efferent Visual Pathway (Ocular motility), and Higher Order Pathways (Visual processing). The brain relies on the visual aspects to function efficiently and when that is not happening it can impact every aspect of life.

Speaker: Dr. Joshua Watt’s mission is to help those that face a daily struggles in school, work, and life because of visual difficulties. He works extensively with children and adults who have challenges in learning or vision information processing, brain injuries, and athletes who are looking for the competitive edge.

He established Impact Vision Therapy in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2014 and expanded to a second location in Castle Pines, Colorado in 2017. With a focus on vision therapy, neuro-optometric rehabilitation, and sports vision training, the team at Impact Vision Therapy truly is “Impacting Lives Through Vision.”

Dr. Watt graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 2013 and is a Fellow of College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). He is involved in the American Optometric Association Sports and Performance Vision Committee, Colorado Optometric Association, and the local optometric society.
