2020 Bob Doctor Service Award

Candace Tefertiller, PT, DPT, NCS

A therapist has never been research director at Craig but now one is.From the time that Dr Tefertiller started at Craig in 2010 there was little emphasis on evidence-based practice and only two clinicians had pursued a Board Specialty (NCS) (both prior to arriving at Craig).Candance elevated the use of evidence, supporting a grant that led to the PEAK wellness center for access for a gym for individuals with neurologic conditions, and encouraging professional development of staff PTs OUTSIDE of the hospital with engagement in professional organizations and presentations.

At least 1/3 of the full time PTs have now have received their NCS based on her encouragement and the facility acknowledging the importance with a clinical development ladder.

The enhancement of technology, use of functional electrical stimulation and progression to membership in the NeuroRecoveryNetwork by Craig Hospital are all results of Dr. Tefertiller’sdirect and indirect efforts. Candy’s drive and positive influence have enhanced recovery outcomes for many individuals who have received therapy services within the Craig system over the past 10 years.
