Regis University DPT Class Participates in Ducheene Awareness Day

Former Vice President Wendy Mathewson and former President Amy Stone Hammerich of the Colorado Chapter support Muscular Dystrophy awareness month with Regis University DPT class of 2019 on Ducheene’ awareness day.

  • Ducheene effect 1 in 3,500 births – that’s 9 boys born every day
  • It is a mutation of the dystrophin gene
  • Children typically become wheel chair bound by the age 12
  • Currently it is fatal. Average life expectancy is about 30 years….. unless they find a cure
  • Physical Therapists and other health care professionals need to be aware and involved in helping these individuals live active lives
