Mile High District Event - July 25: 2017 Denver Local Mini "Graham Sessions"

When: Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Where: Regis Science Bldg. Amphitheater Room 212

Description: An open panel discussion on the future direction of physical therapist practice in a time of change. Continued competency points, pizza, and beer/wine will be served to facilitate lively discussions.

The Graham sessions are in essence the “Think Tank” for the APTA and PPS in addressing issues facing Private Practice. Given the scope and critical nature of some upcoming issues, including autonomous practice, direct access, physician owned physical therapy services and the need for increased public awareness of PT services and the resources needed to respond effectively, the Private Practice Section of the APTA concluded that a new organization was necessary to help to tackle these issues. In 2005, the Educational Institute for Private Practice Physical Therapy was formed as a part of the national Private Practice Section. In 2010 a name change occurred to enable the Institute of Private Practice Physical Therapy to refocus its mission and vision. The Graham sessions began in 2008 as an annual two and a half day meeting of initially 50 invited leaders but has now expanded to 125 interested participants who wish to engage in the hot topics affecting our profession. The format is open and honest discussion led by a few thought leaders that help frame a topic and kick start a robust discussion that is honest and candid and even a bit controversial. No notes are taken; no slides used in essence “what is said at the Graham Sessions stays at the Graham Sessions”. Steve Anderson is one of the founding members and annual host and MC of the Institute for Private Practice Physical Therapy’s Graham Sessions that is also sponsored by APTA and has been by the HPA the Catalyst section. Recent topics have been expanded beyond just private practice and now include technology, global health, educational models and other timely and important topics affecting physical therapist and physical therapist assistant practice.
