Description: Physical Therapist in Colorado can order diagnostic imaging for their clients and have been able to do so since 2014!  This talk will review of radiograph basics, discuss which modality is optimal for specific type of pathology(standard views per joint region and specialized views per suspected pathology et) and get into the more advanced imaging content with emphasis on some sports med type cases and scenarios.

Get up to speed and refresh your imaging basics to better utilize this scope of our practice.

Objectives:

  • Review Basic imaging indications and views
    1. Plain radiograph “standard’ views for each joint/body region
    2. Plain radiograph “special” views for particular pathology per body region/joint where applicable
    3. General methods to “interpreting” a plain radiograph (the literal ABCs of reading a radiograph)
  • Review Advanced imaging indications and specifics in regard to pathology
    1. Differing modalities and indications (MRI vs CT vs bone scan, etc…)
    2. Specific types or weighting of MR imaging for particular pathology (T2, T1, T2 fat sat, PD, STIR, FLAIR, etc…; with or without contrast)
  • Clinical guidelines for when to ordering imaging (c-spine rules, lumbar rules, ottawa ankle and foot rules, pitt/ottowa knee rules, etc)
